About This Project
DPD turned this empty condo into a home with some carefully selected paint colors, all new furnishings, and with some help from the spectacular view of downtown Chicago. For this project, a soothing color palette was essential to grounding this high-rise space. The bustling city atmosphere is part of the draw, but it is also essential relax in the midst of it all. Deb selected new paint colors, most notably a deep navy color to accent a wall in the living room and master bedroom. The floor to ceiling windows provided a beautiful backdrop in all three bedrooms, living room, kitchen and dining room.
The surrounding cityscape and the waters of nearby Lake Michigan were an inspiration for the furnishings and décor in this condo. Deb utilized mixed metals and stone (wrought iron, aged brass, polished concrete, marble, bronze, and small golden accents) to pay homage to the materials used in the high-rise itself.
To soften up the industrious accents and add warmth to the hardwood floors, 11 beautiful wool rugs were thoughtfully placed throughout the space. All new bedding, custom pillows and throw blankets were incorporated to create that comfy, lived-in feel. For the bedrooms, all new bedframes, nightstands, dressers, and small corner swivel chairs bring the once blank-canvas to life. In the living room, a stylish grey upholstered sectional sofa, two swivel chairs (to turn around and see the beautiful view) and a leather woven-back lounge chair were selected to make comfortable lounge seating space for six to relax comfortably.
In any good design, lighting is key piece to bringing everything together. The lamps in the project mixed functional with fun. We’re not sure which bedroom nightstand lamp we love more… the handmade white and navy terracotta lamp with a navy linen shade, the teak with brushed brass lamp or the reactive eggshell glazed lamp with a raw hemp linen shade. Deb also selected a bedroom light fixture made from natural arugrog wood and wrought iron. Overall, these pieces come together to make this once empty condo feel relaxing, comfortable, and most importantly… like home.
